The History of Greenline Cycles
Greenline Cycles has been a cornerstone of the Northern California cycling community since its inception in 1992. Founded by Dacques "Dax" Downey, whose passion for bicycles began at the age of five with BMX racing, the shop has grown from its original location in Oroville to become a beloved institution in downtown Chico.

Early Beginnings and Expansion
Dax's lifelong dedication to cycling led him to open the first Greenline Cycles in Oroville in June 1992, turning his passion into a career. The shop quickly became known for its exceptional customer service and welcoming atmosphere. In May 2012, Greenline Cycles expanded to a second location in downtown Chico, further embedding itself in the local cycling scene.
Growth and Community Engagement
Over the years, Greenline Cycles has broadened its services to include full-service bike repairs, a diverse selection of bikes and accessories, and a convenient rental program for both locals and visitors. The introduction of the GLC 2GO! pick-up and delivery service exemplifies the shop's commitment to making cycling accessible and hassle-free.
The team actively participates in local events, group rides, and advocacy efforts, striving to give back to the community that has supported them for over three decades.

A New Chapter: Merging with Campus Bicycles
In 2025, Greenline Cycles entered an exciting new chapter by merging with Campus Bicycles, a cherished Chico institution that had served the community for decades. This merger honors the legacy of Campus Bicycles while strengthening Greenline Cycles' mission to provide exceptional service and foster a vibrant cycling community.
Looking Ahead
As Greenline Cycles moves forward, it remains committed to the values that have guided it since day one: quality, reliability, and community. With enhanced offerings and a renewed sense of purpose, the shop is excited to continue building a future where cycling is a central part of life in Chico and beyond.
Whether you're a lifelong cyclist or just beginning your journey, Greenline Cycles invites you to join them in promoting a thriving cycling culture for years to come.
